HADLEY, MA -- Williams sophomore guard James Wang (Sydney, Australia) has been named the NESCAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for his role in leading Williams to its first NESCAC title since 2007. This is the fourth time this season that the sharp-shooting Wang has collected the NESCAC Player of the Week honor.
Wang was honored for averaging 19.5 points per game on .577 shooting (15-for-26) along with 4.5 assists and 4.0 rebounds per game in the NESCAC Tournament.
On Saturday in the semifinals against Bates, Wang had 20 points on 9-of-13 shooting, six boards and six assists during the 71-48 victory. He followed with 19 points, three assists, two rebounds and two steals on Sunday in the NESCAC title tilt in a 64-58 victory over Middlebury.
Wang leads the Ephs in minutes played this season with 820 (30.4/game) and he is hitting on 57% of his FG attempts, 51% of his threes and 85% of his free throws. He made four consecutive free throws in the final minute of the NESCAC championship game to seal the Ephs win over Middlebury. He is second on the Ephs in scoring with 457 points (16.9 ppg) and has registered 123 assists to just 66 turnovers.
Next up for the Ephs is a second round game in
the NCAA Tournament vs. the winner of Thursday night’s game
between Bridgewater State and Maine-Farmington, The 26-1 Ephs will
play Thursday’s winner in Chandler Gym at 7:00 PM.
