WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – Kevin App's Williams College men's basketball team (20-5/7-3 NESCAC)) will play Hamilton College (22-3/7-3 NESCAC) Saturday night at 7:30 PM on the campus of Amherst College in the NESCAC Semifinals.
Hamilton defeated Tufts 91-82 on Saturday in a NESCAC First Round encounter in Clinton, NY to advance to the semifinal round. Junior Peter Hoffmann led the Continentals with 25 points, 11 rebounds and five assists.
At home the Ephs downed Trinity 73-71 behind 25 points from junior James Heskett to advance to the semifinal round.
In the regular season matchup in Clinton, NY the Ephs emerged victorious 81-67. The game was tied at the half at 41, but the Ephs out scored the host Continentals 40-26 over the final 20 minutes to capture the victory. Hamilton's Peter Hoffmann was saddled with early foul trouble in that contest, eventually fouling out scoring just one point. The Ephs were led by junior guard Bobby Casey who tallied a career high 31 points and junior James Heskett who tallied 24 points.
Hamilton sports the NESCAC's most potent offense having averaged 87.4 points a game and allowing 73.6. The Ephs average 77.7 points a game and have allowed 63.2.
Hamilton is 5-1 in February and the Ephs are 3-1.
The Continentals are making their first trip to the NESCAC semifinal round. A year ago the Ephs finished second in the NESCAC Tourney and then went on to finish third in the nation.
The winner of this semifinal will advance to Sunday's championship game, at 2:30 PM, which will also be played at Amherst.
