WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – Kevin App's Williams College men's basketball team (20-5) will face archrival Amherst College (21-4) in the NESCAC semifinal round to be hosted by Hamilton College in Clinton, NY.
The Ephs and Mammoths are scheduled to play at 4:00 PM after Hamilton and Tufts square off at 2:00 PM. Saturday's winners will meet at Hamilton on Sunday at 12:00 PM to determine the NESCAC champion and the winner of the conference's automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament.
In the two previous meetings this season between the longtime rivals Amherst has emerged victorious in both contests. Amherst won in Amherst on January 16, 63-62 and then downed the Ephs in Williamstown February 8, 84-79.
Saturday will be the 226th meeting between Williams and Amherst and the Ephs lead the all-time series 121-104.
Williams downed Trinity in their first round NESCAC tourney contest 88-77 with all five Eph starters scoring in double figures. To advance to the semifinals Amherst defeated Little Three foe Wesleyan 63-56 at home.
"Any time you play an opponent for a third time, you know you'll get each other's best," stated App. "I know our group is looking forward to another great week and a chance to compete Saturday."
Williams is the defending NESCAC champion having defeated Wesleayn last February in Amherst, Mass.
