WILLIAMSTOWN, MA — The Williams College men's basketball team was selected to host first and second round games of the 2019 NCAA Div. III Tournament, it was announced Monday.
Williams (20-6) received an at-large berth and will face Husson University (17-10), who won the North Atlantic Conference championship, Friday at 7:30 p.m. Plattsburgh State University (20-6) received an at-large berth in the tournament as well, and will play Gwynedd-Mercy (19-8) Friday at 5:30 p.m. The Griffins won the Atlantic East Conference Championship.
Ticket prices for this weekend will be $10 for adults and $5 for students, senior citizens (age 62 and over) and children. Children age 2 and younger will be admitted free. There will be advanced ticket sales in the Lasell Gymnasium lobby Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Sixteen sites will host four teams for first and second-round competition. Second-round winners will advance to one of four sectional-round sites March 8-9. Winners of the four sectional games will advance to the semi-finals and finals March 15-16. All games, except the semi-finals and finals, will be played on the campuses of competing institutions while the Final Four will take place in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
The Ephs are making their 17th appearance in the NCAA Tournament and they are 47-15 all-time in NCAA play. They have advanced to 8 Final Fours, winning the 2003 NCAA title.
"To see our name called for the third year in a row is really exciting and a major accomplishment for the veterans on the team," Ephs' head coach Kevin App said. ""We are thrilled to get more time together, and to get the chance to compete in front of the Williamstown community again as a host, is even better. We're looking forward to a great week of practice and our next opportunity to compete Friday."
