HADLEY, MA — Williams College senior Matt Karpowicz (Wellesley, MA) has been chosen as the New England Small College Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for play ending Sunday, February 16th.
Karpowicz averaged 17.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game, while shooting 61.5 percent from the floor as the Ephs defeated Bates and Tufts. Against Bates, he scored 10 of his team-high 16 points in the second half as the Ephs pulled away in the final three minutes. He finished the game with 16 points, seven rebounds, and four assists while shooting 75 percent from the floor. On Senior Day, Karpowicz posted a double-double, scoring a team-high 19 points on 8-for-14 shooting and collecting 10 rebounds. He scored 13 of his 19 points in the second half on 5-for-8 shooting and converted all three free throws as the Ephs pulled off the 71-66 upset. In the final 3:28 of the game, he scored nine points and grabbed four rebounds.
Karpowicz leads the Ephs (13-11) in points per game (15.7), rebounds per game (8.5), assists (62) and blocks (20) thus far this season. The sixth-seeded Ephs will travel to Amherst for a NESCAC quarterfinal match-up Saturday at 4 p.m.
