Ephs win first race of 2008 Henley Regatta

HENLEY on the THAMES, UK. -- The Williams V1 boat notched 1 1/2 length win over the English school Oxford Brookes University "B" this morning, posting a time of 6:58 over the 2,112 meter Henley course.

Williams will face off against Reading University Thursday at 11:30 a.m. UTC, 6:30 a.m. Eastern Standard Time.

The Ephs line-up for Wednesday's win lineup was Allison Prevatt '09 (C), Riley Maddox '08 (S), Jack Wadden '11 (7), Cameron Skinner '10 (6), Andy Ward '09 (5), Rob Buesing '09 (4), Ben Byrne '08 (3), Ken Sluis '11 (2), and Peter Clements '08 (B).

"We were fast off the line, took an early lead (I had bowman by the end of Temple Island), and had an opportunity to control the race with roughly a length of open on them down the course" said Eph coxswain Prevatt, a rising senior. "We're not reading too far into our times, given the shifting conditions and relaxed cadence, but we did finish under 7 minutes and seemed pretty close to the other Temple races so far. We'll all be paying close attention to the Reading U vs. Skoll race tonight."

Other American crews in the Temple fared well, with all USA crews winning. Trinity dispatched Southampton University by 1 1/4 lengths in a time of 6:45 and Cornell lightweights squeaked by Dutch powerhouse D.S.R. Proteus-Eretes by 1/3 length in a time of 6:35.
