Williams College Athletic Director Lisa Melendy announced on Friday, March 10 that Edward Slater will be an Associate Head Coach of the Williams College men's crew team this spring along with Nate Clark, while longtime Eph head coach Peter Wells is on leave for the spring semester.
Slater comes to Williams from the Norwalk River Rowing Association, in Norwalk, CT, where he served as Executive Director. Previously, Slater served as the associate head coach at Trinity College in Hartford, CT for six years, where he also rowed as an undergraduate. At Trinity, Slater assisted in all aspects of the Bantams' rowing program including recruiting, coaching, and developing team and personal goals.
He will join the Williams team when it embarks on its annual spring break training trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C. later this month.Slater has also served as the head coach at the Craftsbury [VT] Sculling Center since 2007, coached at the Northeast Rowing Center in Raymond, Maine, and coached with WeCanRow-Boston.
Slater graduated from Trinity in 2007 with a B.A. in English Literature. While competing at Trinity Slater served as a team captain and was in Bantam Varsity boats that won the Head of the Charles Regatta in 2004 and 2005, the New England Rowing Championship in 2005 and 2006, and the ECAC National Championship in 2006.
