Marc Mandel

Marc Mandel enters his ninth season as Head Coach of the Williams College men's crew program in 2025-26. He was appointed to the position in August 2017.

When hired, Mandel shared, "It is clear that Williams College is a special place. It feels like the perfect fit for me and my family. I could not be more excited to work with such a motivated and hardworking group of student-athletes, all while continuing to grow as a coach and teacher. Williams men's crew has a long and deep history of success, and I look forward to the opportunity to continue moving the program forward."

Mandel’s tenure at Williams has been highlighted by multiple Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Division III National Championships (2022, 2023), NESCAC Championships (2021, 2022, 2023), National Invitational Rowing Championships (NIRC) (2022, 2023) and New England Championships (2022, 2023).

Mandel has received numerous coaching awards during his time at Williams, including the Intercollegiate Rowing Coaches Association (IRCA) Division III Coach of the Year (2021, 2022), NESCAC Men’s Rowing Coach of the Year (2021, 2022, 2023) and NIRC Men’s Rowing Coach of the Year (2022, 2023). Outside of coaching, Mandel serves as an Assistant Professor of Physical Education at Williams, where his courses primarily focus on helping students explore the Berkshires via Nordic skiing and mountain biking.

Prior to Williams, Mandel served as the Head Men's Crew Coach at Gonzaga College High School in Washington, D.C., from 2008-17. At Gonzaga, he guided the boys' varsity eight to a record-tying five consecutive Stotesbury Cup Championships, multiple Scholastic Rowing Association of America titles and a Henley Royal Regatta (United Kingdom) semifinal appearance.

From 2005-08, Mandel served as the Coach of the Men's Freshman Heavyweight program at Georgetown University. Prior to Georgetown, he served as the Head Coach of Men’s Rowing at the Florida Institute of Technology from 2001-05, where he guided the varsity eight to a silver medal at the 2005 Dad Vail Championships. Mandel’s earliest coaching years were spent at Skidmore College (1999-2001) and Manley High School in Chicago, Illinois (1998-99).

Mandel was a four-year member of the men's crew program at Northwestern University, graduating in 1998 with a Bachelor of Arts in History. In 2012, Mandel earned a Master of Business Administration from the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University.

Mandel, his wife, Jessie, son, Benjamin, and daughter, Eliza, reside in Williamstown, Massachusetts.
