Eric Sorenson joined Bill Kangas’ Williams men’s ice hockey staff in the summer of 2018 after coaching four years at Nazareth College in Rochester, NY.

At Nazareth Sorenson assisted with all facets of the program including practice planning, skill development for all positions, video breakdown, implementation of systems, scouting and recruiting of potential student athletes, pre-scouting opponents, travel arrangements, equipment ordering, managing budgets, and all other day-to-day operations. While at Nazareth, Sorenson was responsible for recruiting student-athletes from several countries who played in a wide variety of leagues throughout North America.

Through four seasons at Nazareth, Sorenson helped to develop six All-Conference players, a Conference Player of The Year, Nazareth’s first All-American, and three all-rookie team selections, while helping to advance five players to the professional hockey ranks. Also, during his time at Nazareth, six of the seven goaltenders Sorenson worked with earned a form of recognition from the league including an All-Conference selection (formerly ECAC West, now UCHC). Sorenson also helped the program to their first ever postseason victory.

Additionally, Sorenson helped to continue the success in the classroom for the young program, who continually ranked among the best at the College, while also getting the team involved in the community. In November of 2017, Sorenson planned and prepared a Military Appreciation Game to honor those in the local community who had served the country. The event, which included a silent auction on special game-worn jerseys and other giveaways, benefited the Rochester Veterans Outreach Center and raised more than $2,000.

Sorenson is now in his second season on Coach Bill Kangas’ staff at Williams as his lone assistant. In year one at Williams, Sorenson helped the team to achieve a record of 14-9-2, a NESCAC quarterfinal appearance, and a national ranking of #4 in the Pairwise, and #8 on the USCHO poll, with marquee wins over top ranked programs such as Babson (#13), Oswego (#7), and Trinity (#10). The team finished with two All-Conference selections as well.

He is tasked with helping to recruit potential student-athletes, video breakdown and pre-scouting of opponents, practice planning, implementation of all systems, individual skill development for all positions, and other day-to-day operations for the program. Additionally, Sorenson works with the goaltenders for the women’s ice hockey team, who won the 2018-19 NESCAC championship.

A standout goalie at Western New England University (WNEU), Sorenson lettered all four years and holds the career records for wins (29) and saves (2,175), logging 69 starts in 73 games played. Sorenson was named the ECAC Northeast Goalie of the Week 11 times. In addition, he was named to the All-ECAC Northeast Team twice and was a three-time member of the All-Academic team.

Sorenson graduated from WNEU in 2014 with a B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in Sport Management. In 2017 he earned a Master’s Degree in Sport Administration from Canisius College.
