Head Coach Amber McHugh

Amber McHugh

Amber McHugh enters her fourth year in 2025-26 at Williams College as the Head Coach of Men’s and Women’s Alpine Ski Racing. She also serves as an Assistant Coach on the Strength and Conditioning staff.

McHugh is a Vermont native, who grew up playing soccer and ski racing. She attended Saint Michael’s College, where she was captain of both the women’s soccer and alpine ski team. In 2003, she earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Saint Michael's.

After college, McHugh began her coaching career in North Conway, New Hampshire, where she worked with the Mount Washington Valley Ski Team. While there, she worked with many talented athletes and realized that coaching was her passion.

From 2007-18, McHugh coached both men’s and women’s alpine FIS teams at the prestigious Burke Mountain Academy (BMA). During her time at BMA, McHugh coached student-athletes in all levels of USSA, FIS and NCAA ski racing.

She spent time planning and traveling for camps and competitions in various countries as well as working toward her master’s degree in strength and conditioning. McHugh earned her master's in exercise science in 2021 from Edith Cowan University in Australia.

Following Burke, McHugh was the Head Women’s Coach at Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club in Colorado. While there, she was offered a unique opportunity to coach in Oslo, Norway, which she took in the spring of 2019.

In Norway, McHugh coached athletes with the sports club IL Heming and did the strength and conditioning programming for athletes at the Persbråten ski gymnasium. Following Norway, McHugh worked for two years with the UNH Ski Team before coming to Williams College.

In her 20 years of coaching, McHugh has developed and led athletes and teams, which have excelled at the top level of the sport. She is a Level 400 U.S. Ski and Snowboard Coach, Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, USA Weightlifting Coach and CrossFit L3 Coach. She enjoys being active and outside in nature whenever possible.
