MIDDLEFIELD, CT - Despite a slow start by this season's standards on Saturday, the Ephs enter Sunday just eight shots back of top spot and with a solid chance for a third consecutive win.

Sophomore Beau David put in a brilliant shift, leading the team's Saturday effort with a 1-over 73. David's junior teammate and captain Sam Goldenring followed closely behind David, posting a 2-over 74. Both will look to make a move tomorrow with hopes of both leading the team up the leaderboard and moving up in the individual event, in which both are in contention.

The Ephs will be further encouraged by strong play from the rest of the team behind David and Goldenring's particularly strong rounds. Senior captain Jake Foehl and junior Ben Beiers each carded rounds of 76 (+4), another pair of solid shifts that factored into the Ephs' solid day one total. Freshman David Brewer also turned in a 77 (+5), another solid round all things considered.

The Ephs' day one score of 299 (+11) leaves them in fourth place, eight shots behind overnight leaders Trinity, at 291 (+3). In second place sit Hamilton at 292 (+4), followed by Middlebury at 293 (+5), and then Williams at fourth. The Ephs lead fifth place Tufts by five shots, after the Jumbos finished Saturday at 304 (+16). The top four teams at the end of Sunday will advance to the NESCAC Spring Championships, and the winners will host the spring tournament.

In the individual event, Trinity's Will Rosenfield holds a two shot lead after a 3-under 69 on Saturday to set the pace. Trailing Rosenfield are Middlebury's Reid Buzby and Hamilton's Milan Matneja, each firing rounds of 1-under 71. Middlebury's Jordan Bessalel sits alone in fourth at even par, followed by a group of players at 1-over that includes Williams' Beau David, four shots off the lead. Goldenring sits at 2-over, five shots back of the lead, in need of a low Sunday round if he hopes to earn his third consecutive individual win to start the season.

The Ephs tee off at 12:03 tomorrow at Lyman Orchards in Middlefield, CT with hopes to make a charge up the leaderboard.
