NORMAN, OKLAHOMA – Seniors Sam Goldenring and Will Kannegieser members of Josh Hillman's 2019-20 Williams College men's golf team have been accorded PING All-Northeast honors by the Golf Coaches Association of America
"Sam and Will both had really solid fall golf seasons and both we're working really hard this spring," Hillman said. "They were ready to get after the spring season and do some damage.
"Sam was more focused this winter/spring than I have ever seen him. He takes great pride in preparing and being ready for anything that comes his way. He is a strong role model and a fantastic person.
"Will had a very nice ski season and transitioned quickly into golf. He was putting in the time and then some. He was ready to make a big impact this spring.
"All three seniors Sam, Will and Ben Beiers came in freshmen year wide-eyed and raw and all three are leaving polished and with a whole bunch of great experiences under their belts," added Hillman.
The senior Eph trio led Williams to the NESCAC 2019 Fall Qualifier Title, which would have given the team host privileges for the NESCAC Championship in the spring of 2020, but the coronavirus pandemic ended all Eph sports seasons on March 13. Had the Ephs been able to host and win the NESCAC Championship this spring, Goldenring would have had a chance to defend his medalist title at the NCAA DIII Championships in Florida.
Kannegieser took home medalist honors at the NESCAC Fall Qualifier played at Sandy Burr Country Club in Wayland, Mass. by carding a 1-under 71, Goldenring was one over at 73, and Beiers was four over at 76.
"These three young men are amazing people and amazing golfers," noted Hillman. "We will surely miss them next season. It has been an honor to coach them."
