Plattsburgh, NY–After a high scoring game on Friday, the Ephs (9-4-1) shutout the Plattsburgh State Cardinals (6-7-2) 4-0 and swept the weekend.
Characteristic of many of this season's games, there was a goal within the first five minutes of the game. This game's early first period goal came from Williams senior, Marcus Mollica at 3:03. Mollica was assisted by classmate Roberto Cellini. With the early lead, the Ephs set out to extend their lead just as they had done in Friday's game against Manhattanville.
The Ephs' second goal came at 10:07 to bring them to a two-goal lead against the Cardinals. Getting the assist off of Mollica's goal, Cellini was able to deke a shot past Cardinal goaltender, sophomore Lawson Fenton, to score a goal of his own. Sophomores Daniel Woolfenden and Nick VanBelle got the assist on Cellini's goal.
Some intense play erupted halfway through the second period and Cardinal sophomore, Liam Lawson, was issued a major and disqualification penalty at 11:28. Lawson was called for hitting from behind and was sent to the locker room, with classmate Mike Falanga serving his five minute infraction. The man advantage gave the Ephs another opportunity to further extend their lead to three goals. The Cardinals were well into killing the five minute penalty when Eph junior Will Somers, assisted by junior Max Fuld and VanBelle, scored the Ephs' third goal at 14:31.
The Eph squad had one more goal in them before the end of the game. Sophomore Bobby Beniers was assisted by freshman Niko Karamanis and sophomore Julian Detmar to score the fourth Eph goal at 7:33 in the third period.
Eph senior gaolie Michael Pinios' made 24 saves in recording the fifth shutout of his career.
The Ephs will return home for a conference matchup against Bowdoin College January 18 at 7pm.
