WILLIAMSTOWN, MASS. – Bill Kangas' Williams College men's ice hockey team (14-8-2, 10-6-2 NESCAC) will play at Hamilton College (12-9-3, 10-5-3 NESCAC) on Saturday at 1:00 PM in the first round of the NESCAC Tournament. Hamilton is seeded fourth in the tournament.
Last Saturday the Ephs closed out their regular season at Hamilton and the host Continentals posted a 4-2 win. The Ephs and the Continentals split the season series with Williams posting a home 3-0 win over Hamilton back in December.
The Ephs are the No. 5 seed for the first time since 2012 and have appeared in every NESCAC Championship. Williams has advanced to the semifinals the last two years, but is seeking its first NESCAC title. Hamilton is 2-0 against Williams in the NESCAC Championship with the last meeting in the 2010 quarterfinals.
Hamilton is making its fifth straight appearance and is the No. 4 seed for the second year in a row. The Continentals are hosting a quarterfinal game for the fourth straight season. Hamilton enters the tournament unbeaten in its last five games (4-0-1).
"We are looking forward to our trip to Clinton, N.Y., this weekend," stated Kangas. "Throughout the 24-game regular season, every player in our locker room had impactful games for us. And, as you would expect, during the playoffs, scoring or big plays may come from a less likely source. Moving forward, our team's depth will be counted on, everyone contributing to make a play, score a goal, block a shot, or make a save. We will learn from our recent games and an overall successful 14-game road schedule, and knowing this team, I believe they will be very motivated for an outstanding week in practice, preparing for Saturday's game versus Hamilton. Right now, everyone is 0-0, and with the overall competitive balance in the NESCAC, we believe (like all of the other 7 teams) we have the ingredients to make a run for the NESCAC Championship."
After the first round of play the four remaining teams will advance to the site of the highest remaining seeded team for the tournament semifinals and finals the first weekend in March.
