HADLEY, MA — Williams College sophomore goaltender Cosimo Lazzarino (Kleinberg, Ontario) has been selected as the New England Small College Athletic Conference Men's Hockey Player of the Week for play ending Sunday, March 1st.
Lazzarino stopped 34 of 36 shots he faced Saturday in a 3-2 win over No. 8 Connecticut College in the NESCAC Quarterfinals. After the Camels cut a 3-0 Williams lead to 3-2 at the 12:01 mark of the second period, Lazzarino made 19 consecutive saves, including all 12 shots he faced in the third period, to help seal the victory. The Ephs were outshot 30-16 over the final two periods.
In conference play this season, Lazzarino is tops in the NESCAC with a 1.72 goals against average. His .941 save percentage is second in the conference to teammate Evan Ruschil, who is first at .942. Overall, Lazzarino is 7-3-1 this season with a 1.99 GAA and a .934 save percentage.
As the top seed in the NESCAC Tournament, the Ephs will host the NESCAC semifinals and championship this weekend in Williamstown. Trinity and Hamilton will face-off Saturday at 1 p.m. while Wesleyan and Williams play at 4 p.m. The two winners will meet Sunday at Lansing Chapman Rink for the 2 p.m. championship tilt.
