WILLIAMSTOWN, MA - George McCormack's Williams College men's lacrosse team opened last season by winning four of its first five games, including two NESCAC matchups against Trinity and Connecticut College. During the 2016-17 season, McCormack's Ephs averaged a whopping 12.4 goals per game.

The 2017 Ephs finished the year at 7-9 and 4-6 in NESCAC. The Ephs were led by senior captains Thomas Fowler and Michael Fahey during a great season before losing to Wesleyan in the NESCAC Tournament.

The Ephs will open the 2018 season March 3rd at home at 1:00 p.m. when they host Wesleyan who is ranked #2 in the DIII National Poll in a NESCAC contest. Coach McCormack added, "we're excited to see the Cardinals for our season opener and get the chance to compete once again."

Only five of the sixteen regular season games for the Ephs will be at home on Farley-Lamb Field with the nearest away contest on March 7th at 7:00 p.m. versus Union College.

The Ephs will play three teams on their schedule ranked in the USILA Preseason National Top 10. They include Wesleyan (2), Tufts (8) and Amherst (10).

Williams will close their regular season schedule on the road for their final three games at Western New England, Bowdoin and Middlebury.

Coach McCormack is also excited that his schedule will once again feature a 2-game trip to Colorado Springs, CO to play Colorado College and MIT after taking a trip down to Hoboken, New Jersey for a matchup against Stevens.

The captains for the 2017 season will be seniors James McFarland, Ben Fox, Greg Plumb and Nicholas Fils-Aime.

Despite losing some great seniors from the 2017 season such as Riley Hoffman, Thomas Fowler and Michael Fahey, McCormack feels that the defense can be a stronghold of this year's team. The Eph defense will be led by seniors Henry Hobbes, Nicholas Fils-Aime and Matt O'Connor with underclassmen such as Jake Schuckman, Cameron Brown and Mack Rush. LSM will be played by sophomore Rock Stewart, junior Matt Hogan and Matt O'Connor.

As for the Eph offense McCormack noted, "We graduated our two top scorers from last year so we're looking to see some young guys contribute and take that role on for us," such as sophomore Kevin Stump who netted 15 goals last season along with sophomore John Hincks who scored 16 goals who will be led by captain James McFarland at the attack position. Hincks played as a midfielder last season and has made the move down for the Ephs. Juniors Dutch Buckley and Riley Van Den Broek will also be in the mix this year for Williams's attack.

Major contributors at the midfield position will be sophomore Brendan HoffmanMaxwell Stukalin, Jack Lee and Ben Wipper. Key players at the defensive midfield position include Greg Plumb, Noah McCoy and Brian Bissell.

Face-offs will be taken by dynamic duo of Angus O'Rourke and freshman Alex Kidd.

The starting goalie for the Ephs during the 2017 season will be sophomore George Peele. Last season, Peele had a stellar debut for the Ephs with 187 saves for a save percentage of 48%. He will be backed up by freshman Harry Gahagan.

Looking ahead to the season McCormack commented, "We're all very optimistic because of the amount of hard work the guys have put in during the offseason and we're looking forward to enjoying the ride."
