Springfield, MA  The Williams College Ephs (7-6/5-3 NESCAC) defeated the Western New England Golden Bears (9-6) 11-8 in tonight's match-up at Golden Bear Stadium on the campus of Western New England. The Ephs have now won three games in a row.

With 5:06 to go in the fourth quarter, sophomore midfielder Brendan Hoffman, after two straight goals from Western New England narrowed the Eph lead to 9-8, would be the scoring factor to deliver the 11-8 victory. Hoffman netted two unassisted goals in the game's final 5:06 to increase the Ephs lead and those two goals extended Hoffman's string of goals to three.

The Williams College Ephs took control of the first quarter early on, winning the opening face-off and scoring the first three goals of the game, two scores by senior Jared Strauss and one goal by sophomore Brendan Hoffman. The score at the end of the first quarter was Williams 3 – Western New England 0.

The Golden Bears answered back with two unanswered goals early on in the second quarter, both by junior attackman Jared Ward. The Ephs soon countered these goals with a ripper of a goal by Kevin Stump assisted by Alex Kitt. Western New England countered with a score at 6:21 from Nicholas Beauchamp, bringing the score to a one-goal game, 4-3. Two minutes later, sophomore John Hincks netted a score unassisted to give the Ephs a 5-3 lead. At 1:02, the Golden Bears scored for the final time in the second quarter with a goal from Nick Gamba assisted by Jared Ward. To end the first half, Jared Strauss scored within the last ten seconds assisted by Cory Lund to give the Ephs a 6-4 lead going into the second half.

Coming out at the second half, Williams found a goal at 5:51 unassisted by Jared Strauss. Western New England soon countered back with two goals, one from Mikey Wood at 2:22 and Jared Ward at 1:16. The score at the end of the third quarter was Williams 7 – WNE 6.

Western New England came out with a bang during the final quarter, netting a goal at 11:52 to tie the game up at 7-7. Williams soon answered back with two goals, one from Kevin Stump and one from Brendan Hoffman to push the Ephs back a two-score lead. WNE countered back with a score at 6:52 by Brendan Lyons assisted by Nicholas Beauchamp to bring the score back to a one goal deficit with the Ephs up. Sophomore Brendan Hoffman closed the game with back-to-back goals making the final Williams 11, WNE 8.

The Ephs used one goalie today, George Peele, who finished with 7 saves in 60 minutes of play. The Golden Bears also used one goalie this as well and Steven Kerr made 14 saves in 60 minutes in the net.

The Golden Bears were led by Jared Ward with three goals and one assist, followed by Brendan Lyons with two goals. 

The Ephs were led by Brendan Hoffman with four goals and one assist and Jared Strauss with four goals, followed by sophomore Kevin Stump with two goals

Eph head coach George McCormack stated, "I was happy to get a road win versus a tough Western New England team. We're looking forward to playing a great Bowdoin team this weekend."

The Ephs return to action this coming Saturday when they will play away in a NESCAC match-up at Bowdoin College, taking on the Polar Bears at 1pm. The Western New England Golden Bears will next play away in a match-up against Salve Regina on Saturday at 7pm.
