Williams defeats Hamilton in NESCAC match-up

Clinton, NY – The Williams College Ephs (9-2/5-2 NESCAC) defeated the Hamilton College Continentals (3-7/1-7 NESCAC) 12-6 in tonight's match-up by holidng the Continentals to just one goal in the second half.

Williams took control early on and scored two minutes into the game at 13:05 on a man-up opportunity from Kevin Stump with an assist from Jake Haase. Hamilton soon answered back with a goal of their own at 12:10 by a feed from Chris Conely and a score from Henry Hunt to tie the game up. Williams countered with a two-score streak from Ephs Cory Lund and Jared Strauss to bring the Ephs past the Continentals at 3-1. Before the end of the quarter, Hamilton netted a score by Chris Conely to bring the game to 3-2 with Williams in the lead.

Hamilton netted the first goal of the second at 14:20 on a man-up opportunity of their own by Henry Hunt with an assist from Zachary Larsen to tie the game at 3 – 3. About a minute later, Williams ran away with the lead after a goal by Kevin Stump after an assist by Cory Lund. Hamilton then countered with a goal at 11:01 by Henry Hill to tie the game for the third time. Five minutes later, the Williams offensive machine warmed up and scored two-straight goals, both by Kevin Stump to give the Ephs not only the lead, but the right momentum to lead into the rest of the game. With just one-minute left in the first half, the Continentals netted a score by Henry Hill unassisted to bring the game to 6 -5 in favor of the Ephs going into halftime.

Williams came out with great poise from the offense and stellar play from the defense to block the Continentals from scoring in the third period and pulled away from Hamilton on the scoreboard. At 11:21 after a much-needed man-up play, Eph Cory Lund scored off a feed from Jake Haase to bring the game to 7 – 5. In the remaining five minutes of the third quarter Williams netted two more goals, one from Jared Strauss unassisted and another from Brian Greenstein assisted by Kevin Stump to give the Ephs a four-score lead going into the final quarter. Williams was up 9 – 5.

At 13:47, Williams netted the first score of the fourth quarter by Jared Strauss assisted by Calvin Collins to bring the Eph lead to five goals. Two minutes later, Williams Michael Greenberg scored off a spectacular doge and shot to bring the game to 11 – 5. Hamilton answered back with their last score of the game at 4:52 by Clay McCollum and an assist by Chris Conley. With under two minutes left in the game, Williams netted the final goal, securing the win with a shot and goal by Cory Lund. Williams defeated Hamilton 12 – 6.

The Ephs used two goalies this game. Sophomore Harry Gahagan had 7 saves with 58 minutes of play. Freshman Will Bock had one save with two minutes of play. The Continentals used one goalie tonight. Max Scheidl had 14 saves.

The Continentals were led by Henry Hunt and Henry Hill with two scores each. They were followed by Chris Conley and Clay McCollum with one goal each.

The Ephs were led by Kevin Stump with four goals and one assist. He was followed by Cory Lund with three goals and one assist and Jared Strauss with three goals. Other Williams scorers were Michael Greenberg and Brian Greenstein.

The Ephs return to action this Saturday, April 13th away when they play Colby College, taking on the Mules in a NESCAC match-up at 1pm. Hamilton College will next play against Connecticut College home in a NESCAC match-up on April 13th, taking on the Camels at 1pm as well.
