Matt Ratajczak moved from central back to outside left back and to Iceland this July to continue his soccer career. Joining Fjolnir FC midway through the season Ratajczak was relegated to a substitute role when the team went on a hot streak and climbed in the standings.
When the string of success ended, Ratajczak was given on apportunity to show what he could do.
On Saturday in a game where Fjolnir needed a result to advance from the First Division to the Premier Division in Iceland Ratajczak stood tall.
Trailing by a goal and down a man, Fjolnir got the tyiong goal in the 75th minute.
In the 80th minute Ratajczak came on to a ball in the box and in the midst of the scramble, the left-footed former Eph captian, scored with his right foot to give Fjolnir a lead they would not relinquish.
In the final 10 minutes of play Fjolnir tacked on another goal to win 3-1.
The victory gave Fjolnir the First Division title and boosted them into the Icelandic Premier League next season.
For his heroics Ratajczak was named to the First Division Team of the Week.
