Eph Men’s Soccer Lands Three of the Top Five DIII Players to Play in MLS

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA -- A recent story on mlssoccer.com ranking the best–ever lower division players to play in Major League Soccer has three Ephs in the top 5, including the top two players.

Topping the list of DIII players to play in the MLS is former Eph central back Dan Calichman '90. Calichman played professionally in Japan before joining MLS and becoming the USA Today Defender of the Year in the MLS's initial season.

Calichman made two appearances for the U.S. National Team.

Just behind Calichman at number two is midfielder Khari Stephenson '04 who has appeared in 32 games for the Jamaican National Team as well as playing for Kansas City, San Jose and Real Salt Lake.

In the fifth spot of DIII's best-ever MLS players is forward Alex Blake '03, who was the National Soccer Coaches Association Division III Player of the Year in 2002 and is the Ephs' all-time leading scorer with 77 goals and 33 assists for 177 career points.

All three of the Ephs in the MLS's top five NCAA Division III players played for current head coach Mike Russo.

Filling out the top five at number four is Jeff Moore of Richard Stockton (NJ) and former St. Lawrence goalie Greg Sutton.
