WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – Two members of head coach Erin Sullivan's 9-3-3 Williams men's soccer team have been named to the CoSIDA Academic All District I First Team in a vote by the region's Sports Information Directors.
To be eligible for Academic All-District consideration a player must possess a cumulative GPA of at least 3.35 and be either a starter or a significant reserve. Earning First Team All-District honors places backliners Kevin Mercadante and Tobias Muellers on the Academic All-America ballot.
Mercadante, a senior from Garden City, N.Y. and an economics major, is a four-year varsity letter winner and a 3-time Academic All-NESCAC honoree. He worked his way into the starting lineup as a junior and is now viewed as one of the team's leaders and is a captain this season.
Mercadante has started all 15 games this fall and along with the other members of the Eph backline has allowed but 13 goals in 15 games. He has played 39 games in the Purple Valley.
Junior Tobias Muellers, majoring in chemistry hails from Burlington, Vt. He has started and played 14 games this fall and has now played in 45 of 47 games at Williams. A two-time Academic All-NESCAC honoree, he is also a three-sport athlete at Williams.
Muellers also competes in indoor and outdoor track. Last spring Muellers earned All-America recognition in the decathlon at the NCAA DIII Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Twice this season Muellers has come forward on Eph corner kicks and scored a goal.
