Forward Demian Gass Earns Scholar All-Region Honors from United Soccer Coaches/Team Earns USC Academic Award

KANSAS CITY, MO. – Williams College senior forward Demian Gass earned his fourth post-season honor of the year today when he was named First Team Scholar All-Region by the United Soccer Coaches (USC).

Gass was previously named First Team All-NESCAC, USC All-Region First Team, and to the USC All-America Third Team this fall. Gass, who hails from Houston, is an Economics and Statistics major and he sports a 3.3 cumulative GPA.

To be eligible for selection, the student athlete must be nominated by his or her Head Coach and meet the following criteria:

  • Have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) throughout his or her career
  • Start more than 50 percent of all games and be an elite player as supported by playing honors (i.e., all-conference) or contributions to the success of his/her team.
  • Plays for a current United Soccer Coaches College Services member institution
  • Senior College:
Be a junior or above in athletic standing at the current institution
Be in his or her second year at the current institution if a transfer student.

This fall Gass started in all 17 games and led Williams in scoring with seven goals and he registered one assist. Gass led the Ephs in points with 15. Two of his seven goals were game-winners, which also led this year's team.

During his time in the Purple Valley Gass started 28 of 39 games for the Ephs while, scoring 14 goals and recording one assist for 29 total points. Six of his 28 goals were game-winners.

"The Williams Soccer family congratulates Demian on another well-deserved accolade," said Eph head coach Erin Sullivan. "This particular recognition is at the core of what it means to be a successful scholar-athlete at a school like Williams. Demian embodies this lofty ideal with an innumerable list of achievements in the classroom and on the field while maintaining so many diverse and positive relationships in our community. It's a fitting honor for Demian and we're very proud of all that he and his teammates have achieved as scholar-athletes this year.

The Eph team as a whole once again qualified for the USC Team Academic Award (Team cumulative GPA over 3.0 the previous academic year) announced earlier this fall. Sullivan noted, "Our 2018-19 team cum GPA was over 3.5! Very impressive even by Williams standards."
