PRINCETON, NJ - The Ephs were bested 8-1 by a strong Princton side on Saturday evening.
Using the five court system, the first players on court were sophomores Carl Shuck (#2) and David Pincus (#4), freshman AJ Solecki (#6), senior captain Jamie Havran (#8), and junior Oscar Merino (#10, exhibition). Pincus and Solecki both played hard but succombed to 3 game losses. Shuck and Havran each played exceptional matches and fought till the end before eventually falling 3-1 to two strong players. Merino also lost a close 3-1 match. Next on were sophomores Will Means (#1) and Claude Smith (#7), freshman Wyatt Khosrowshahi (#3), senior captain Mason Elizondo (#5), and junior Ben Eisenberg (#9). Means, Khosrowshahi, Elizondo, and Smith all fell 3-0 to another set of strong Princeton opponents. Eisenberg turned out to be the hero of the day, triumphing in a tremendous 5 game victory over his opponent, salvaging the Ephs a point in what was otherwise a very tough day.
Coach Zafi Levy had this to comment: "I was pleased with the team's performance today. Princeton is a top 6 team in the nation with the best player in college squash. All players played hard and improved their standard of play. Tomorrow will be another tough day with two hard matches back to back. We look forward to the opportunity of playing some of the best teams in the country week in week out."
The Ephs, now in Philadelphia, will face Drexel at 10 am tomorrow and Penn at 3 pm before heading back to the Purple Valley.
