BOSTON, MA - The Ephs played both UVA and MIT at MIT on Sunday, and finished the day 1-1.

The Ephs were missing key players in both matches which made things tough for the team, particularly in the first match. Leading off in the first match were sophomore David Pincus (#3), junior Anand Butler (#6), and senior co-captain Mason Elizondo (#9). All three were defeated 3-0 in a slow start for the Ephs. Next on were juniors Ben Eisenberg (#5) and Will Ruggiero (#8), along with sophomore Will Means (#2). Means earned a point for the Ephs with a strong 3-0 victory. Eisenberg and Ruggiero each battled, but eventually lost out by 3-1 scorelines. Last on for the Ephs were junior John Fitzgerald (#1), sophomore Claude Smith (#4), and senior co-captain Andrew Litvin. Smith and Litvin were both defeated in three games. Fitzgerald went down 2-0 before battling back brilliantly to win in five games.

After disappointment in the first match of the day, the team bounced back well to beat MIT. First on court for the Ephs in the second match were sophomore Will Means (#3), junior Anand Butler (#6), and senior co-captain Jamie Havran (#9). Butler earned a solid 3-0 victory to put an early point on the board for the Ephs. After splitting the first two games, Havran finished strong to win in four games. Means fought hard to eventually win 12-10 in the final game of a tough five game match. Juniors Ben Eisenberg (#5) and Will Ruggiero (#8), together with sophomore Carl Shuck (#2), all followed on in the next wave of play for the Ephs. Shuck added another strong 3-0 victory. Ruggiero lost the first game, but bounced back well to win the next three and close out the match for the Ephs. Eisenberg played hard but was defeated in four games. Last on were junior John Fitzgerald (#1), sophomore David Pincus (#4), and senior co-captain Andrew Litvin (#7). Pincus and Litvin each worked hard, but were beaten by 3-1 and 3-2 scores, respectively. Fitzgerald, for the second time of the day, went down 2-0 before battling back sensationally to win in five games.
