Williams Outlast Bowdoin 6-3

NEW BRUNSWICK, ME – In their second match of the day, the Ephs (6-3) captured another hard-fought victory away at Bowdoin (6-3).

Junior Wyatt Khosrowshahi (#2), senior co-captain Carl Shuck (#5), and freshman Charles "Chas" Merrill (#8) led off for the Williams men. Shuck and Khosrowshahi delivered a pair of convincing 3-0 wins. Merrill got off to a slow start, finding himself 2-0 down, before roaring back to take the match in five games to put the cows up 3-0.

Following on were sophomore Jacob Bassil (#1), junior AJ Solecki (#6), and senior co-captain Claude Smith (#7). Bassil took a 1-0 lead before struggling to maintain a rhythm, and fell 3-1. Solecki put in another strong showing and won 3-0. Smith found himself locked in a five game battle, but ultimately fell short in the decisive game.

The Ephs carried a 4-2 lead into the final round, needing one more point to close the match. Last on were freshman Udai Pal (#3), senior co-captain Will Means (#4), and junior Tucker van Eck (#9). Unfortunately, Pal struggled with an ankle injury and couldn't offer much of a fight, falling 3-0 in uncharacteristic fashion, bringing the score to a tense 4-3 with the Ephs still a point short of the finishing line. Thankfully for the Ephs, van Eck was on hand to deliver the crucial point, earning a decisive 3-0 win to close the match. Despite some tough moments, Means was able to add another point with a 3-1 win, polishing off a 6-3 Ephs win.

Head Coach Zafi Levy had this to say following the win: "I'm thrilled with two wins today, I think the boys played tough against Bates and Bowdoin. Some of the players really stepped up today to clinch the matches. We're looking forward to another tough match tomorrow"

The Ephs take on Colby tomorrow at noon before heading back to Williamstown to prepare for a tough string of matches next weekend.
