WILLIAMSTOWN, MA - Williams records its second consecutive sweep to complete the team match portion of the Fall season. The team's latests success earns the Ephs a 2-0 record going into the two tournaments which will round out the season.
"Another good match for us." Head Coach Dan Greenberg had nothing but good things to say after another strong performance.
Alex Taylor '20 and Brian Grodecki '18 began the action today with an 8-3 victory over their opponents. Benjamin Leibowitz '20 and Arturo Kam '21 followed suit with a 8-2 triumph of their own. To round out the doubles victory and earn their second win in as many matches, partners Austin Barr '21 and Calvin Chung '21 recorded an 8-2 victory.
Not to be outdone by the doubles success, Williams singles also repeated their sweep with a 6-0 record over Vassar's line up. Grodecki again achieved victory in a longer match played against Vassar's #1, where the score was 6-2, 7-6(4). Sachin Raghavan '18 kept the ball rolling with a 6-2, 6-3 win of his own. Barr, Chung, and Taylor each added singles' victories to their doubles' success earlier in the day, and Ananth Raghavan '20 completed the shutout with an impressive 6-0, 6-0 sweep of his own.
With the conclusion of the team matches for the abbreviated fall season, coach Greenberg remarked "The first-years are jumping in smoothly, and our seniors and upperclassmen are setting a great example of how we want to compete."
The ITA regional tournament begins on September 29th and marks the beginning of the next portion of the Ephs' season. This seeded tournament will be quickly followed by another tournament at MIT on October 15th which will be the last chance for the team to compete this fall.
Vassar College comes away from today with a record of 2-1, after achieving victories over Union College and Bard College earlier this season. They will also reunite with Williams at the ITA tournament on September 29th.
