ROME GA- The third and final day of the 2017 ITA Oracle cup concluded today. Mohanad al houni from Gustavus Adolphus College took the championship and the spot in the Oracle ITA National Fall Championship in November. Play ran from Thursday through Saturday of this week.
Brian Grodecki '18 was previously defeated in a close match in the semifinals of the tournament. However, his prior success earned him the chance to play for third place today. His opponent was Johnathon Jemison '19 from Emory University. Grodecki won a close first set 7-5, before finding his stride in the second set and posting a score of 6-2 for the victory. Head Coach Dan Greenberg commented "BG played an awesome match today. A couple loose games at the start, but after that he stayed solid and gave away no free points. It's a great way for him to cap off a nearly perfect fall season."
Grodecki's play in the Oracle cup was secured after his victory run at the 2017 ITA Division III New England Regional Championships. The competition at the Oracle Cup is made up of the best players within Division III tennis.
