CLAREMONT, CA -- Eleventh ranked Williams (7-2) defeated the third ranked Claremont Mudd Scripps (CMS) Stags by the score of 5-4. CMS is now 15-3 on the year.

Since losing to Bowdoin 7-2 CMS had won its last five matches heading into the confrontation with the Ephs and only Tufts had been able to win two matches against the Stags. Further, in their last seven matches the Stags had won 19 of the 21 doubles matches. Today, however, the Ephs took the lead after doubles, 2-1, notching wins at #2 by Alex Taylor and Calvin Chung 8-5 and at #3 by Jordan Sadowsky and Arturo Kam, 8-4.

"Today was the first day we played solid doubles and solid singles and it paid off," stated Eph head coach Dan Greenberg. "We gave nothing away. The rookies put quick, crucial points on the board; sophomores battled back after losing first sets; and once Alex Taylor got the momentum he stuck with his plan. The seniors also did a great job in singles of pushing their match to the brink. Great way to end a great trip, because we saw a ton of progress in the last ten days."

Today's match was played at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center on the campus of Claremont Mudd Scripps, which will serve as the site of the 2018 NCAA DIII national quarterfinals, semifnals, and championship team and individual matches for both men and women May 21-26.

Out of doubles the Ephs quickly upped their lead to 4-1 with straight set singles wins by Austin Barr at #2 and Arturo Kam at #6. Barr won 6-2, 6-2, while Kam won 6-0, 6-0.

The Ephs' fifh and deciding point was delivered by Alex Taylor at #5 singles. Taylor dropped the first set 6-2, but rebounded to win the second set 6-4 and then he took control of the third set early and fashioned a 6-2 win to seal the match.

The Ephs' next match will be back on the east coast when they host NESCAC foe Middlebury April 7 at 10:00 AM on the Torrence M. Hunt Tournament Courts.
