Senior Brian Grodecki & First Year Austin Barr Named First Team All-NESCAC in Singles

HADLEY, MA – Williams College senior captain Brian Grodecki (Wayne, PA) and first year Austin Barr (Chagrin, OH) have been accorded First Team All-NESCAC honors in singles play.

Grodecki has played #1 singles for the Ephs this season where he has fashioned a 17-7 ledger. In the fall Grodecki won the New England ITA Singles Tournament and advanced to the national ITA Tournament where he finished third.

Last year Grodecki and Alex Taylor were All-NESCAC First Team honorees in doubles play and Grodecki earned Second Team All-NESCAC recognition in singles. The tandem of Grodecki and Taylor finished second in the NCAA Doubles Tournament in 2017.

Grodecki was also a Second Team All-NESCAC singles player in his first year at Williams.

"Brian has been an incredible competitor for us all four years and he's gotten better every year," said Eph head coach Dan Greenberg. "It's been awesome to see him become one of the best singles and doubles players in the country, all while inspiring his team to work harder and get back toward the top of D3 as well."

In his career in the Purple Valley Brian Grodecki is 66-25.

First year Austin Barr has played primarily at #2 singles for the Ephs and he is 19-6 heading into the NCAA Tournament this weekend. Barr informed the New England Region early that he was a player to be reckoned with as he took home top honors in singles at the MIT Invitational.

"Austin puts more effort into his game than anyone I've ever seen," stated Greenberg. "Convincing him to take a day off is as hard as competing against him on court, where every point is like his last. Very excited to see his progress in the next few years."
