CLAREMONT, CA -- Williams College senior men's tennis captain Brian Grodecki seeded sixth in the NCAA DIII Singles Tournament was eliminated today in three sets.
Grodecki lined up against the tournament's top seed, Nick Parodi, from Claremont Mudd Scripps.
Back on March 27th during the Ephs' spring break excursion to southern Calofornia, Grodecki and Parodi played a three set match in the team match that Williams won 5-4.
Parodi also downed Grodecki in three sets on that date.
Today Grodecki opened the match with a 6-4 win over Parodi in the first set. Parodi, however, re-grouped and won 6-4 in the second set and then he prevailed again in the third set
by a score of 7-5.
The third set featured a lot of long rallies and also was highlighted by numerous add situations in pretty much each game played.
Brian's career come to a close," said eph head coach Dan Greenberg. "He was such a joy to coach and I'll miss working with him and watching him compete. At the same time, seeing
a player give everything he had to the program for four years makes it easier, because I know he made the absolute most of it, and I know the rest of the team is lucky to follow in his
footsteps and I'm looking forward to it."
