WILLIAMSTOWN, MA - On Sunday, Williams played Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Skidmore, Springfield, and Vassar in a full day scramble of singles and doubles sets to prepare for the upcoming ITA New England Regional.
While no official results were kept, Williams had a strong showing throughout the day in both singles and doubles. The tournament provided an early opportunity for the new-look Ephs, who lost four seniors from the team that advanced to the NCAA Division III quarterfinals last year, to build their collective character as a team and get some inter-collegiate matches under their belt.
At the end of the day, Ephs' head coach Dan Greenberg commented, "It was a great format for our guys to play a bunch of sets against a bunch of different players. We competed well and only dropped a few sets on the day, but more importantly, we got to see different play styles and start sharpening our games for next weekend."
This preparation could prove key as the team looks towards their competitive season opener next Friday and the 2018-19 season as a whole.
Williams opens their competitive fall season in earnest at the ITA New England Regional at Middlebury College on September 28th-30th.
