Boston, MA—The men's track and field team competed today on Day One of the 2019 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. The Ephs saw competition in the prelims of the 3000, mile, and 800.
Aidan Ryan '21 got the meet started for the Ephs in the prelims of the 3000. The sophomore, running in his first NCAA track championship, handled his heat comfortably. He stayed near the front of the race, passing through the mile in 4:38. Although Ryan never took the lead, he looked in control throughout, closing hard to finish 2ndin his heat in 8:24.53—running his last mile in 4:19. With his performance, Ryan qualified for the 3k final tomorrow.
Next up for the Ephs was co-captain Lucas Estrada '20, racing the prelims of the mile. Estrada ran a tactically smart race, closing hard over the last half to finish 6thout of 10 in his heat in 4:15.10—a seasonal best—and 14thoverall.
Finishing off the day for Williams were Tristan Colaizzi '20 and Kevin LaFleche '20 in the prelims of the 800. Colaizzi ran a gutsy race, finishing 5thin his heat and 15thoverall, in 1:54.46. LaFleche ran tough himself, kicking hard to finish 5thin his heat and 12thoverall in 1:53.87, a seasonal best.
The Ephs will return to competition tomorrow. Aidan Ryan will run the 3000 at 4:55 PM.
