WILLIAMSTOWN, MA -- Williams College sophomore distance runner Aidan Ryan has been named the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) New England male track athlete of the year.
Ryan is ranked ninth nationally in both the 1500 at 3:49.83 and the 5000 at 14:23.22. He is undefeated in each event this season, which includes a victory in the 5000 at the NEICAAA Championships against a field comprised of NCAA DI, NCAA DII and NCAA DIII competition. Ryan completed the 1500-5000 double at the NESCAC Championships.
Ryan is coming off an impressive sophomore campaign that has included two NESCAC titles (in the 1500 and 5000, respectively), an NEICAAA title (in the 5000), a Division III New England title (in the indoor 3000), and a 3rdplace finish at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship (in the indoor 3000). He has not lost an outdoor race this season. Ryan is seeded 8thin the 1500 with a seed time of 3:49.83, which he achieved at the Williams Final Qualifier invite on May 15. He is seeded 9thin the 5000, with a seed time of 14:23.22, which he achieved at the NEICAAA Championship. With his championship experience and continuing momentum this season, Ryan looks poised to contest for All-America honors in each event (top-8 in each event).
Ryan will be looking to extend his track All-American honors to three consecutive competitive seasons this weekend in Phio.
