Prior to Williams, Norton served as a graduate assistant at North Central College in Illinois, a long time powerhouse in Division III cross country from 2016-18.. During his time there, the North Central men’s team won two NCAA Championships in cross country in dominating fashion. The two largest largest margins of victory in DIII history. The Cardinals also captured the 2017 NCAA Championship in indoor track.

Norton coached a multitude of North Central individual and relay All-Americans in the distance and middle distance events, including two-time NCAA Champion Dhruvil Patel. He also worked with the horizontal jumpers, helping that group become competitive on the conference level for the first time in many years.

Norton has competed and coached in the NESCAC. At Tufts University Norton was an assistant coach of the men’s cross country and track and field teams from 2014-16. Tufts won the 2015 NESCAC track title aided by two individual victories in the distance/middle distance events along with two runner-up finishers.

Further, the Tufts’ cross country team qualified for the NCAA Championships both years, highlighted by a third place finish at the NCAA New England Regional Championship in 2015. Norton worked with 4-time NCAA Champion Mitchell Black in the 800 meters, NCAA All-Americans in the 800m, Steeplechase, and 10k.

Norton graduated from Tufts in 2014 with a degree in Economics and International Relations where he was a 2-time All-American for the Jumbos, anchoring a second place Distance Medley Relay in 2013 and taking 5th place in the 1500m outdoors in 2014. He won the NESCAC 1500m in 2014 and doubled back that same day to take third in the 5000m. Norton still holds the Tufts’ school record for the indoor mile (4:06.38).
