WILLIAMSTOWN, MA -- Williams College senior men's cross country captain Bijan Mazaheri (Wellesley, MA) has been named the NESCAC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week for his outstanding race at the famed Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh University.
Additonally, Mazaheri was also accrded the United States Track & Field Cross Country Couches Association National Athlete of the Week honor.
Mazaheri was the seventh runner overall to finsih and the first from a DIII school. Competing in a field of 278 runners, including 20 DI teams, Mazaheri covered the 8k course in 24:09 and helped the Ephs to the highest finish by a DIII team and 13th place among the 27 teams.
Eph head coach Peter Farwell commented after the race, "Bijan had a tremendous performance. He got out quickly from the gun, worked his way into the front pack, and held his ground for the rest of the race. He's on pace for high finishes in the championship season."
Today Farwell noted, "Bijan has a tremendous base from dedicated training. He put that on display by positioning himself in the lead pack, even taking the lead at one time when the pace slowed. His endurance and tenacity carried him to the finish accelerating each mile, to finish in a group of top division I scholarship racers."
