DANBURY, CT -– The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced the Corvias ECAC Men's Cross Country Runners of the Week for the week ending Nov. 8.
This week a pair of Ephs swept the honors with sophomore Liam Simpson (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) earning Runner of the Week honors and first year Zeke Cohen (Chevy Chase, Md.) capturing Rookie of the Week honors in Division III.
Simpson captured the individual title at 2015 ECAC Division III Cross Country Championships held on the Ephs' home course at Mt. Greylock HS. Running a strong time of 26:24.13 in the 8k event, Simpson finished just four-tenths of a second better than the runner up in the field of 277.
"Liam ran a consummate race, getting out well, running patiently in the lead pack, then making a strong move in fourth mile to take the lead, gapping the second place runner on the downhill half mile from end, and then holding off the fast finish of the second runner with a kick of his own," commented Eph head coach Peter Farwell His time ranks well on the Honor Roll for the course, and he has improved immensely over the course of the season."
Cohen posted the best finish of any first year runner at the 2015 ECAC DIII Cross Country Championships. The Maryland resident completed the 8k course in 26:58.91, just two-tenths of a second in front of the second finishing first year. His time earned him sixth place overall.
"Zeke Cohen has impressed with his performances this fall, catching on quickly in how to race an 8k," noted Farwell. "In this championship he pushed evenly throughout, moving into top 10, and then running down several in the final stretch to take 6th and break the 27-minute barrier on our tough 8k course. We look forward to him contributing greatly in the three seasons yet to come."
Williams finished third as a team at the championship.
