CLERMONT, FL. -- Junior Emma Harrington hurled her second shutout in as many starts Sunday, helping the Williams College softball team past Luther University, 1-0, in the first game of a doubleheader. In the nightcap, Emalie Rott and first year Brooke Bovier combined on a five-hitter as the Ephs defeated Potsdam State, 5-2.

Williams is 3-1. They begin a three-game conference series with Hamilton Monday when they play a single game against the Continentals that begins at 1 p.m.

The Ephs managed just two hits in the opener versus Luther, but scratched together a run in the second off starter Becca Girvan. Ali Garebner drew a lead-off walk and was sacrficed to second by Mo Frank. With two outs, Erica Li singled to drive home Graebner for the only run of the game.

Harrington allowed five hits and four walks while striking out five over seven innings. Luther put runners on first and second four times in the game, but each time the Ephs' veteran right-hander wiggled out of the jam.

In the top of the seventh, with two outs, Hilary Pennington singled and stole second. After a walk, Katie Wieland was hit with a pitch to load the bases, but Harrinton induced a fly out to left field to end the game.

Graebner had the Ephs' other hit.

In the nightcap, Taylor Donze had a two-run single. She scored a run on an error in the third. In the fifth Priscilla Pino roped an RBI-double. That was more than enough for the Ephs' pitching duo of Rott and Bovier. Rott allowed four hits over 3 1/3 innings, striking out three but walking none. Bovier (1-1) pitched the last 3 2/3 innings, striking out seven while not walking a batter.
