RIVERSIDE, CA — The Williams College softball team stayed as hot as the California sun Wednesday, rolling to a 7-4, 10-1 sweep of La Sierra University.
The Ephs improved to 6-1 on the trip while La Sierra fell to 6-24 on the season. Williams is at Pomona Pitzer College tomorrow for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
In the nightcap, first year Lexi Curt continued her recent tear with a 4 for 4 performance that included two home runs and six RBI. Breanna Martinez added a couple of hits, and Tayler Donze had three and threw a runner out at home.
Senior Emalie Rott went 4 2/3 and allowed just a single run to earn the victory.
Williams took a 1-0 lead in the first on Curt's RBI single. In the second, Priscilla Pino got things started with a walk and Martinez singled. Both runners moved up and Mo Frank dropped down a perfect squeeze bunt for an RBI. Alison Michalik scored Martinez with a groundout for a 3-0 lead.
Curt's second home run of the season came in the third, and Margo Beck followed with a single. Pinch-runner Ashley Wirth eventually came around to score on a wild pitch for a 5-0 lead. In the top of the fourth, Donze singled and, with two outs, Curt launched her second home run in two innings and her third in two days for a 7-0 Williams lead.
Three runs in the top of the fifth put the game away. Martinez and Frank opened the frame with back-to-back singles. After an out, Donze singled to load the bases. Kacey Cramer scored one run with a groundout, and Curt singled home the final two runs for a 10-0 lead.
In the opening, Brooke Bovier tossed a complete game to hurl the Ephs to a 7-4 victory.
The Ephs jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first on a bunt basehit by Melissa Cendejas and a run-producing out from Bovier. It was 2-2 in the top of the fourth when Amanda Siedem drew a one-out walk and scored on Michalik's two-out RBI-double.
