Ephs end trip with split against Chapman

CHAPMAN, MA -- The Williams College softball team ended its 15-game West Coast swing with a split at Chapman University Tuesday, rallying for six runs in the six inning of game one to mpost a 7-5 victory, and then dropping the nightcap, 2-1.

Williams finished its trip 12-3. The Ephs are scheduled to play a three-game series at Middlebury Friday and Saturday.

Williams trailed Chapman 2-0 after four innings, but got a run back in the fifth when Priscilla Pino reached on an error, took third on a double by Tayler Donze and scored on Alison Michalik's infield single.

Still down a run entering the sixth, Lexi Curt got things going with a single and Ashley Wirth pinch ran for her. Margo Beck followed with a two-run homer run to left center for a 3-2 Williams lead.

Kacey Cramer followed Beck's blast with a triple down the right-field line. Melissa Cendejas singled her home for a two-run lead.

Mo Frank was 2 for 4. Emma Harrington earned the win, going 6 1/3 innings and allowing six hits while walking five and striking out four. She was charged with five runs, three earned.

The nightcap was scoreless for the first five frames before Williams scraped together a run in the sixth when Curt lined a one-out double and, with two outs, Brenna Martinez singled pinch-runner Ashley Wirth home.

Chapman scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to win the game, both RBI-hits coming with two outs. Brooke Bovier took the loss, going 6 2/3 innings and giving up three hits and two runs, both unearned. She walked six and struck out five.

Williams had seven hits. Donze was 2 for 3.
