HADLEY, MA — Williams College first year Mackenzie Murphy (Diablo, CA) has been selected as the New England Small College Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for play ending Sunday, April 17.
Murphy went 3-1 in the circle for the Ephs last week. She posted a 0.35 ERA over 20 innings of work, and only allowed seven base runners during that time. Murphy struck out 20 total batters while issuing just two walks. She opened the NESCAC West series against Hamilton with a 3-1 complete game win where she allowed just one hit. On Saturday, she came on in relief in game two with Williams trailing 6-3. Over the final four innings, Murphy only allowed two base runners as the Ephs came from behind to win 13-6. She also tossed a complete-game shutout against Skidmore earlier in the week, allowing three hits.
Murphy also went 7-for-11 (.636) from the plate with two doubles, three runs scored, and four RBIs.
Murphy currenty leads the NESCAC with a 1.89 earned run average and is batting .393 with 19 RBI for the Ephs.
On Wednesday afternoon (4/20) the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) named Murphy the New England DIII Rookie of the Week.
