WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – Senior captain and catcher Lexi Curt (Moorpark, Calif.) has been named to the 11-member Google Cloud District All-Academic First Team along with junior pitcher Mackenzie Murphy (Diablo, Calif.).
By virtue of their District I First Team honors, Curt and Murphy will now appear on the Academic All-America ballot that will be voted on later this month by the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
At the time the nomination form was submitted Curt had played in 37 of the Ephs' 41 games and started 36. She was batting .427 (50 for 117) and exactly half of her hits were for extra bases: 12 doubles, two triples and 11 home runs. Curt had scored 38 runs and driven in 35. Her on base percentage stood at .478 , while her slugging percentage was .915, and her fielding percentage was .988. Her 11 home runs at that point in the season established a Williams softball season record and she had already Eph career marks with 194 hits, 36 HRs, 152 RBI, 52 doubles, and 91 extra-base hits.
Curt is a history pre-med major who plans to attend medical school in the future.
At the time of the submission of Mackenzie Murphy's nomination the sophomore hurler had compiled a record of 14-1 this season.
In 84.6 innings Murphy had allowed 23 earned runs and sported an ERA of 1.87. Murphy had made 16 appearances on the year, including 14 starts and she owned 8 complete games.
Murphy to that point had struck out 53 batters and walked 10. In her career Murphy has registered 42 wins against nine losses with an ERA of 1.90. She has struck out 188 batters and walked 52.
When she is not pitching Murphy plays first base and she has made many contributions to the Eph attack with her bat and glove. When her nomination was submitted Murphy was hitting .427 with 11 doubles and nine HRs and she had driven in 29 runs all while playing errorless ball in the field.
Murphy is majoring in biology and is looking forward to attending dental school after graduation.
