STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, CO - - After the first day of competition at the 2010 NCAA Skiing Championships in Steamboat Springs, CO, Williams finds itself in 12th place. The University of Denver holds first place with 6 more competitions to come.

Today the Giant Slalom was contested, with Williams starting three women and one man. In the women's race, freshman Geordie Lonza continued her consistent skiing, placing 21st. Lonza was the eighth EISA skier, indicating that this was one of her better races. Her two teammates, Emily Porter and Laurel Carter, struggled today, placing 29th and 31st, respectively. While the women did not ski to their potential, the ended the day as the 9th team in the nation. Utah's Eva Huckova (Slovakia) won the Giant Slalom title.

On the men's side, Alex Dyroff was the lone Eph to compete. After the first run, Dyroff sat in 28th place, but a fall in the second run dropped him to 35th. Leif Kristian Haugen (Norway) of Denver won the National Championship in Giant Slalom.
