JACKSON, NH— A few short days have come and gone and the WILLIAMS NORDIC team is happily situated in New Hampshire for a weekend of racing hosted by University of New Hampshire.
The men competed in their 20k classic mass start race first. After completing 4 laps, each 5k, the WILLIAMS NORDIC men placed 5 of their skiers in the top 30. Junior Jack Consenstein lead the herd, closely followed by teammate sophomore Emil Graf, placing 17th and 18th respectively. Right behind these two speed demons was sophomore Henry McGrew in 21st, junior Dylan Syben in 23rd and senior captain Nick Gardner in 25th. These high caliber yet not surprising results put the WILLIAMS NORDIC men in 5th place, only 34 points behind Bowdoin in 3rd place.
After the men set the tone for the WILLIAMS NORDIC team, the women embarked on their long 15k classic mass start race. After completing 3 laps, each 5k, the WILLIAMS NORDIC women's team put 3 of their skiers in the top 30, resulting in 5th place as a team. While they scored 5th team, the women were only a mere 58 points out of 3rd place. Senior captain Sonya Jampel who has had a very strong start to her season lead her pack of Ephwomen, placing 14th overall. Less than a minute behind Jampel was teammate junior Ingrid Thyr in 23rd place and sophomore Magdalen York in 29th.
Head coach Jason Lemieux recommends to his athletes to "race fast" and his athletes answer enthusiastically and without hesitation "okay", because that's what Ephs do. They race fast. The WILLIAMS NORDIC team looks forward to the skate sprint tomorrow.
