STOWE, VT – The University of Vermont provided a beautiful venue at the von Trapp Family Lodge but the WILLIAMS NORDIC ski team provided a force to be reckoned with on the venue.
The women started the race day off with a long distance 15k mass start classic race. After the first 5k lap of the course senior captain Sonya Jampel was sitting in 5th place. Finishing the race in a solid 13th place. Closely following Jampel was teammate junior Ingrid Thyr in 16th place who has slowly been working her way up in the rankings. The Ephwomen's third skier, sophomore Magdalen York ended her day in 23rd place. This put three of the women in the top 23! A new best. The women's team ended their second day of the UVM carnival happily in 4th place with 77 points.
Taking the women's energy and translating it to their race, the men embarked on their 20k long distance mass start classic race. After four grueling laps, senior captain Nick Gardner finished in an excellent 12th place. Only 5 seconds behind Gardner was teammate senior Evan Carr in 15th and freshman Isaac Freitas-Eagan in 17th. Putting three men in the top 17 placed the mens team in a podium finish- 3rd overall and only 8 points out of 2nd!
The WILLIAMS NORDIC team is known for racing their way into season and this weekend has proved this theory. They look forward to continuing their upwards trajectory on the results list at the Dartmouth Carnival next weekend.
