RIPTON, VT – Another race day has come and gone with some success as well as some new knowledge on things to work on.
The men started the day off with a 10k individual start skate race. After two ripping fast laps on the course, freshman Isaac Freitas-Eagan led the WILLIAMS NORDIC men's team to 5th place overall. After Freitas-Eagan finished in 9th place, teammates senior captain Nick Gardner and senior Evan Carr crossed the finish line in 16th and 17th place, respectively. The usual race leader, senior Braden Becker, was unable to compete today, due to sickness.
After the WILLIAMS NORDIC men finished their race, the Ephwomen embarked on their 5k individual start skate race. Senior captain Sonya Jampel led the Ephwomen, finishing in 18th place. After suffering one fall each, sophomore Magdalen York and junior Ingrid Thyr crossed the finish line in 24th and 30th place, respectively. While York and Thyr were bummed about their falls, they have decided to take them as lessons for what not to do next weekend, at the last races of the year.
Head coach Jason Lemieux was proud of his team's results. He told them, "Great job today! After looking at results things were so tight and we were very close to having some amazing results for many people. Keep focused on resting and getting a nice easy ski in tomorrow. Regional championships are in a week and we've got to make it happen!"
The WILLIAMS NORDIC team looks forward to next weekend when they will be racing at the Bates Winter Carnival at Black Mountain in Maine.
