Williamstown, MA -- The EISA Carnival season came to a close yesterday with the slalom at the NCAA East Region Championship/Bates Carnival. The weather was fantastic and the Ephs skied with pride. The soft snow posed challenges for every skier, as large ruts and bumps formed quickly.
The women's team was led by sophomores Maddie Dekko and Anna Bruce. Both Dekko and Bruce were able to capitalize on excellent start positions on the second run and finished the day in the top 30 placing 18th and 22nd respectively. It was the last race on the collegiate circuit for seniors Hannah Hunsaker and Gibson Donnan. Both women fought to get to the finish line, Hunsaker placed 33rd and Donnan placed 40th.
In his final race as an Eph, senior Charlie Harrison laid down a blazing fast 3rd place second run to finish 14th overall. Seniors Bryan Bailey and Stockton Troyer, also in their last race, placed 32nd and 42nd. Senior captain Hannah Hunsaker commented: "It was a great way to end the season at Sunday River this weekend with amazing sunny weather. Throughout the season we had a tough time consistently performing to our potential, but everyone learned a lot and had fun as a team. Even though we had tough conditions this weekend we had great weather and everyone on the team showed physical and mental toughness."
It was bittersweet for the Ephs to see six seniors take their last turns on the collegiate circuit. But, the team looks forward to competing through the month of March in spring races and is excited to get stronger and faster in preparation for next year's EISA races.
