Sugarloaf, ME -- The Ephs returned to Sugarloaf today for the slalom portion of the Colby Carnival. The race started at the top of a steep section known as Crib Works and turned down onto the same lower section of Narrow Gauge that the GS was raced on yesterday.
The women's team saw a spectacular performance from junior Maddie Dekko who earned her first carnival top 5 result ever, placing 4th. "The biggest excitement of the day was Maddie Dekko. She was able to capitalize on an opportunity she created first run to get her first top 5 finish in a Carnival" Head Coach Kelsey Levine said. "She has been building towards this for a very long time and it is great to see her finally earn this result." Freshman Isabel Grondin raced her first Carnival slalom of the season placing 34th, while sophomore Hannah Trudeau placed 41st.
The men saw two solid top 30 performances from seniors Ryan Schmidt and Paul Sheils, placing 23rd and 25th, respectively. Senior Cole Janco was the 3rd scorer of the day with 34th place. The men finished 9th in the 13 team field today and the women finished 6th. Combined with nordic skiing results the Williams Ski team finished 6th overall in the Colby Carnival
Williams skiers will travel to Maine again this coming weekend (2/7 – 2/8) to race the Bates Carnival hosted at Sunday River. "The team has done a great job getting more people in the top 30 than we have in the past. We feel comfortable on the hill at Sunday River and I think we can turn that into a strong performance" Levine said.
