Sunday River, ME – The sun was shining as the temperatures dropped for the second day of the Bates Carnival today in Sunday River, ME. The Ephs raced giant slalom on the Monday Mourning race trail, facing moderate terrain the whole way down on a long course. The snowfall from yesterday set up overnight to a hard, grippy surface and made for a great day of racing.
Maddie Dekko led three women into the top 30 today after her victory in the slalom yesterday, placing 10th. Sophomore Nadine Levey achieved her second top 30 of the season placing 24th and freshman Claudia Cantin also scored her second top 30 of the season placing 28th.
For the men it was senior Will Kannegieser leading the team with a 15th place finish. Cole Janco was able to capitalize on his first top 30 GS start of the season, placing 18th. While Paul Sheils skied a fast second run to land in 27th place. Freshman Zach Dekko showed solid skiing with a 42nd place finish.
As a team the women placed 6th in the 13 team field while the men placed 7th. Combined alpine and Nordic results placed the Ephs in 5th overall for the Bates Carnival weekend.
The Ephs will host their home carnival this weekend (February 14th and 15th) at Jiminy Peak!!
