Williamstown, MA – The Williams Alpine Ski Team was met with cold temperatures and sunny, bluebird skies this morning for the giant slalom event of their home Carnival at Jiminy Peak.  The snow surface was exceptional and many skiers remarked that it was the best surface they had ever seen at Jiminy, with icy and grippy snow!  The Ephs skied with confidence today on their home hill, the Whirlaway trail.  The familiar steep upper pitch, to compression, and roll onto the bottom pitch gave way to seasons best results for Williams skiers.

Junior Maddie Dekko led 5 women into the top 30 today placing 16th.  Close behind was freshman Claudia Cantin with a seasons best 18th, freshman Isabel Grondin in 26th, sophomore Nadine Levey in 28th, junior Anna Bruce in 30th and sophomore Hannah Trudeau in 35th.  All 6 members of the women's team finished both runs today, and it was the first time this season that 5 women skied into the top 30!

On the men's side senior Cole Janco skied to a career best 10th place Carnival finish, leading three men into the top 30 with seniors Paul Sheils and Will Kannegieser finishing 16th and 20th respectively.  The men's team also saw all 6 of their members finish both runs today with freshman Zach Dekko in 41st, senior Ryan Schmidt in 46thand junior Will Snyder in 51st. "It was another awesome day for the team! As a group, we're hitting our stride and I can't wait to see what happens in tomorrow's slalom" senior captain Paul Sheils said.

The men's team finished 5th in them 13 team field today and the women's team finished 6th.  Combined with the Nordic results, the Williams skiers sit in 5th place after day one of their home Carnival.

The Alpine Ski Team will return to Jiminy Peak tomorrow for the slalom portion of the Carnival.
