Williamstown, MA – The Williams Alpine Ski team had fantastic weather at Jiminy Peak yesterday for the slalom portion of the Williams Carnival. The grippy, icy snow surface on the Whirlaway trail provided excellent conditions for every skier on what was a cold, bluebird day at Jiminy. The slalom course started with a flat upper section and rolled over onto the steep lower pitch, ending in a quick, technical bottom section to the finish.
Junior Maddie Dekko showed exceptional slalom speed as she skied to her second Carnival victory in a row! Dekko skied to the win in front of a home crowd of Eph alumni and family, leading two other Ephs into the top 60 with sophomore Hannah Trudeau in 41st and freshman Claudia Cantin in 46th.
For the men's team, seniors Paul Sheils and Ryan Schmidt fought hard to finish 20th and 21st respectively, in what was a stacked race with many skiers showing fast and competitive times. Following close behind was senior Will Kannegieser who recovered from a mistake on his first run to finish 38th with junior Will Snyder finishing in 41st.
Both teams finished 6th in the 13-team field today. Combined with the Nordic ski results the Ephs placed 5th overall on their home carnival weekend.
The EISA Carnival circuit will take this coming weekend off from competition before returning for last carnival of the season at the Middlebury College Snowbowl on February 28th and 29th.
